[ARCHIVED] "up the creek with a paddle" - Guided Kayak Tour

IMG_20210911_095450978_BURST000_COVER

Experience the unique history and natural beauty of Gray’s Creek in Surry, Virginia.

Designated as part of Virginia’s Scenic Rivers Program in 2020, Gray’s Creek was first navigated by the Indigenous People of the coastal region and later explored by Captain John Smith of Jamestown fame. An attempted second colonial fort began construction by Smith along the creek in 1609; and, although never completed, the raised earthworks remain on the property of Smith’s Fort Plantation and within view of Gray's Creek.

This is a ticketed event. Tickets may be purchased in advance here.  Guided, interpretive tours will begin next to the Surry Seafood Company Restaurant where there is event parking and a bathhouse available. Gray’s Creek is sheltered from strong coastal winds and currents; this allows guests access to marshes that support various species of wildlife and waterfowl. Your experienced guide will share how this tranquil waterway is steeped in history during the hour-long tour.

Guests may choose to enjoy a delicious meal at The Surry Seafood Company Restaurant upon their return. Ticketholders will receive a restaurant coupon to use for dining or take-out.

This is a BYOK (Bring Your Own Kayak) event! A limited number of kayaks and PFD can be arranged through our event staff. If interested in borrowing equipment onsite, please call (757) 294-0644 before reserving your tickets.
