Experience Chippokes State Park through the eyes of your child.
Staff have planned a full day of activities for the children in your life:
Ever wondered what kids did in the days before smartphones and tablets? Discover the joy of colonial games of tag, hide-and-seek, hopscotch, leap frog, and jump rope. If games of strategy are more your style you can try dominoes, marbles, card games, and dice. Location - lawn of the Jones-Stewart Mansion.
Bring along a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds of the mansion or at the Farm and Forestry Museum.
Learn all about the fossils that can be found along the James River and why they seem to be so abundant in this area. Location - Quayle Classroom at the Farm and Forestry Museum.
Chippokes Staff will take you on a hike from the Farm and Forestry Museum down to the James River (approximately 0.3 miles) to search the shoreline and fossil beds of Chippokes State Park. Search for giant scallop shells, petrified bone, sharks teeth, and more!
All events are FREE. $7.00 per vehicle parking fee applies.
